Creation

If you were to travel to parts of the jungles of Africa, the Amazon, and Asia you would still, - in 2004, - come across men and women dancing in front of idols and poles; they would be worshipping a god (or gods) they would claim created the world.

Study Islam, Buddhism, Sikhism, Hinduism, etc. … and you will find they all believe in something behind the creation of all things.

In the western world there has been a significant rise in New Age, pagan and occult practice and they believe in a ‘presence’ or a ‘source’ that compiled nature and the world as we know it.

The human psyche knows that ‘something’ was behind the creation of this world, and they make up their stories to explain it.

The Bible says, Rom. 1:19 that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath showed it unto them. 20  For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse. The Bible teaches that God’s eternal power and Godhead have been blatantly made manifest through His creation. Other religions demonstrate a limited understanding of this great truth. However, as they recognise a ‘God-influence’ behind creation they (v.23) changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things. How did their consideration of God become so far wrong? The Bible answers that question very simply and very definitely, v.21 they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.

The doctrine of creation (with relation to religion), then, was spoiled and adapted by flawed philosophy of men.

On the other hand, science, - which we are told only deals in absolutes, and proven facts, - is very content to base all its calculations on theory … when it comes to the subject of creation.

I want to read you an ‘exciting’ piece of information that has been presented to the world through an eminent scientist from Harvard University, Dr. Daniel Haber. As you know, Harvard is one of the top universities in the US, and probably in the world ... so therefore, in the minds of many, their word is beyond reproach.

The gene that maketh man? (obviously a twist on the Christian AV language)

The gene is found only in human-like primates. US scientists have identified a gene which they say could explain why humans are unique. … It seems to have arisen between 21 and 33 million years ago, when primates were becoming more human-like.

The gene emerged about the time the path that led to humans, chimps, orangutans and gorillas was splitting off from that of old and new world monkeys. The gene could have duplicated itself, creating many new ones specific to humans, according to researchers at Harvard University in Massachusetts.

Genetic clues Science has long sought to explain why we are different from our closest animal cousins - the primates.

Ascent of humans The gene seems to have emerged when two other genes fused together during the evolution of higher primates.

Its sudden appearance relatively late in the history of the animal kingdom could have been the trigger for the evolution of humankind, although so far this is only a theory.

I no longer expect much from the unsaved, God-rejectionists who argue like that … from behind their crumbling walls of theories, conjecture and guesswork … but it is sad to hear those in church circles trying to accommodate the two contradictory points of view. If you are a Christian, and you say you love God and His Word … if you are trusting in His Divine, infallible Word for salvation … then His Word begins by telling you, In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. That statement is not couched or hidden in any fancy, difficult-to-understand theology or language. It is straightforward and simple to understand. It is God saying in God’s Word what He did!

It is so important … because if you can’t trust what God says at the beginning of His Book … why read any further?! So, every truly born-again believer must take it as Gospel … or else say to God, “No! I believe, - or I give credence to, - the theories and the groundless speculation of the ungodly scientists”. There is no excuse for the believer to say, “Yes, I believe what Gen. 1:1 teaches but I also believe and can understand how the theory of evolution, - or some parts of it, - can work alongside it”.

No, they don’t and they can’t! By its nature, they contradict the other, - the Bible rejects the claims of the evolutionist scientist, … as the evolutionary scientist denies the claims of the Bible.

Anyway, anyone with any common sense knows that anything created must have a creator. Even if you did believe in the ‘big-bang’ theory, you would still have to answer the question where did the atoms that collided come from?! They had to have a point of creation, with some form of original creating agency.

Enough of that! … Into the Word …

God’s Pleasure

bullet

The world was created for God’s pleasure. It was created for no other reason than God wanted to create it. Why did He create it? … No point asking the question, - you’ll never get the answer!

bullet

Was He lonely? No. Did He need something to occupy His time and His mind? No.

bullet

In the Scriptures there is a phrase/doctrine that is known as ‘the pleasure of God’. It is a doctrine that is secret to Him and consealed from His creation.

bullet

It is in the hidden recesses of His mind. Rest assured that there was absolutely no need for God to plan to make the world. It would bring Him trouble, heartache, bereavement … but yet, in His own Sovereign will, He alone decided to create it.

bullet

The creation of everything is nothing more and nothing less than His pleasure, - God’s desire, His Almighty and unflinching will.

bullet

When He created all things it warmed His heart when He looked at it and placed upon it His seal of approval, Gen. 1:31 God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day.

bullet

It brought pleasure to Him as He looked at every little minute detail He had made.

bullet

… the detail in the leaves of the trees, in the little animals (even the serpent), in the waves of the oceans, in the beauty of the mountains. Such marvellous displays … not of some accidental freak of nature, but of God’s handiwork!

bullet

God made it all for Himself!

God’s Perfection

bullet

When God created humanity, He made a difference by setting them out to be distinct and separate from the rest of creation.

bullet

The Bible does not suggest or imply that God looked at the fish of the sea, or the fowl of the air, or the cattle, or at any other creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth and then He decided that He would pick one of these creatures up and ‘do a makeover’ on it … and He ended up with a human being.

bullet

The Bible doesn’t suggest any type of evolutionary format in God’s work of creation; in fact, it stresses that the creation of man was different altogether! God said, Gen. 1:26 Let us make man in our image, after our likeness.

bullet

When God decided on the plan of creation He wasn’t making up the plan as He went along. He thought about it an considered it and He made man in God’s image! Absolute perfection! God formed man perfect … standing on his own two legs, with a voice that spoke, … distinct from all the rest of creation.

bullet

Man was made in God’s image … in God’s perfection.

bullet

Into man God placed a living, immortal soul. The soul was to be the channel of fellowship between the person created and God.

bullet

Sin was not a part of man’s vocabulary. The practice of sin did not occupy man’s mind or his ways. The purpose of our first parents was to serve, glorify, honour and enjoy God in everything they did.

bullet

The Garden of Eden was the place of God’s perfection where there were no weeds, or thorns nor anything that contradicted God’s holiness or His perfection.

bullet

In such a place as this God set out a guideline …

God’s Prohibition

bullet

When you have gone to all the work of creating something … you care for it and look after it.

bullet

All that Adam and Eve knew was God; they knew nothing nor nobody apart from God and what He did for them. They had no existence outside of God’s good pleasure and God’s perfection.

bullet

God gave to them both something that no other pair has ever possessed since, - God gave them a free will.

bullet

He made them sinless, He made them perfect and complete, He made them so that they would enjoy His company … but He didn’t make robots; He made them with a mind and a will of their own.

bullet

They had the absolute freedom (with no restrictions) to decide … and God had gifted them with the privilege of that freedom.

bullet

But, God said to them, 2:16 Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: 17  But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it.

bullet

His command was clear and precise. Since they had everything else in the Garden open to their desires … what possible need would they have had to break God’s rule on this?

bullet

It was one prohibition that God made them responsible for.

bullet

Since the Garden was so perfect where did the devil come from? Why did God let Him into the Garden? Why did God have such a tree in the Garden? Was He not just tempting fate by telling them not to eat from it? Mighty questions!

bullet

There was a prohibition … just as there is in Heaven. In Heaven there’s a Throne and the right to sit upon it is prohibited to all, save One!

bullet

Had not the Sovereign God, the Creator of all that is … did He not have the right to set out lines of prohibitionHe is God, we are but His Creation!

bullet

He set out those lines for the glory of His Name and for the welfare and benefit of His people.

Conclusion

bullet

God, - without any outside help from science, nature, explosive cosmic bangs of any kind, - God created this world wholly completely absolutely by Himself … and so the Bible says! Is. 45: 8  Drop down, ye heavens, from above, and let the skies pour down righteousness: let the earth open, and let them bring forth salvation, and let righteousness spring up together; I the LORD have created it.

bullet

He said to Job, 38:4 Where wast thou when I laid the foundations of the earth? … 18 Hast thou perceived the breadth of the earth?

bullet

When Moses stood before the pagan, idol-worshipping Pharaoh he told him, Ex. 9:29 the earth is the Lord’s.

bullet

In another royal court the psalmist sang, Ps. 24:1 The earth is the LORD'S, and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein. 2  For he hath founded it upon the seas, and established it upon the floods.

bullet

To deny the beginning of God’s Word is to deny its whole foundation, - how can you believe the things you cannot see, if you do not believe the things you can see!

bullet

Creation is the insight into God’s marvellous work from the beginning of time.

bullet

He did it all for no other reason than for His own pleasure, and He did it all out of His own perfection.

bullet

Upon His work He had the indissoluble, enduring and everlasting right to place upon His creation the unique and special prohibition.

bullet

The Bible begins with a Garden and it ends with a Garden. Our God is the Chief Gardener and He says that He will restore again to its perfection the garden. He is jealous for it.

bullet

He will have in that Garden in Heaven such a display of tremendous proportions. It will never be polluted in any way.

bullet

Creation then, is the work of God, - completely, totally and entirely. That is the Truth that God’s Word is founded upon … and the Truth that affects our understanding and faith throughout God’s Holy Word … even from Gen. 1:1!
